 Our name comes from the song Take Five, written by Paul Desmond and performed by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Its innovative 5/4 time signature was leading-edge, and propelled the Quartet as a creative force in the jazz world.
When we opened our store in 1977, formula chain stores and super-stores were the dominant form, with their mediocre-product-at-low-price marketing scheme (stack ‘em high and make ‘em fly). We were young, idealistic, and dedicated to stereo systems that provided nothing less than the most realistic reproduction of music. We had something not just different, but better to offer, and the name Take 5 Audio signified our approach. All three founding partners shared the same business motivation: treat the customer as an individual, offer the best products and personal service, provide a relaxed shopping atmosphere free of sales commissions and hype, and business will take care of itself.
National recognition and awards as an industry leader in high-end audio reinforced this philosophy (Audio-Video International Magazine’s “Retailer of the Year” four times). Our growth continued by applying the same principles to a broader scope of products and services the best and most innovative manufacturers in the world want to be in our store, and call us first with the new and noteworthy as soon as it becomes available.
Our products and services are still driven by customer needs. Dedicated high-performance music systems, home theater systems, integrated multi-room music systems, ready-made and custom cabinetry, and video are core offerings, while our professional installation staff make it happen in your home to your satisfaction.
 We were among the first to integrate audio and video, prewire new homes under construction, install speakers and wire in walls, and we constantly monitor new technologies to offer meaningful and enduring products and services. We will also service your broken components, deliver and/or install any purchase, consult with you, your architect, designer, or contractor on your projects, and design custom cabinetry.
Today, Take 5 Audio continues as Connecticut’s leader in home entertainment technology because our 20 years of experience and passion makes us the finest at recreating the emotional involvement of live music and film.
What is “high-end”? Often taken for simply the most expensive, high-end also stands for the superior results of well-designed and executed components, crossing the entire range of pricing. Like the word “best”, not just the most expensive, but the “best in category” the best loudspeakers under twelve hundred dollars, the best cd changer under six hundred, the best amplifier under two thousand, the best home theater under five thousand, etc., as well as the best performing component or system regardless of price.
It is a performance level. High-end products in any price range have an inherent value, now and for as long as you own them.
